The Rolex Number 38 Melissa Reid Wins Deloitte Ladies Open In Holland

Holly Aitcheson

England’s golfer Melissa Reid, who currently is on 38th position in the Rolex rankings, recently won the Deloitte Ladies Open in Holland. She secured her 2nd Ladies European Tour victory as she got ahead of the overnight leader Holly Aitcheson. Melissa Reid was able to secure an under par 70 in the last round that was played at Golf club Broekpolder near Rotterdam.  That shot was enough to dislodge Holly Aitcheson who was leading the game from the start. She also missed an opportunity to tie Melissa Reid’s 54-hole score of 3 under par on the second spot in the tournament. Caroline Hedwall followed her victories at PowerPlayGolf that took place last week and the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open with a second place tie along with a finish in the under two with Caroline Afonso and Holly Aitcheson from France. The 23 year old golfer from Derby tied for the 25th place in Portugal, 13th in Germany and 29th in Slovakia where she took a vow that she will step things up. Melissa Reid also claimed her first win at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open last year. However after she turned professional, she has been playing very well.

She has finished on the second spot seven times since starting her rookie season in the year 2008 and has been able to post 3 top-five finishes in this season. She also tied for the second spot at the European Nations Cup in team game with Laura Davies. Melissa Reid set out in cool, cloudy conditions as she shot her first birdie at the fourth hole after she hit a 6 iron to almost 12 feet. However she also dropped a stroke at par five sixth after the tee shot went to the right ad her second shot rebounded back from the trees. She managed to get back into the game after shooting birdies on the seventh and eighth hole to reach the second spot just two points behind the leader Holly Aitcheson.

On the ninth she played very well and managed to shoot the most difficult holes along with a birdie on the 15th. As the game went on she putted a bogey on the seventeenth hole. After she missed a two footer, she found trees off the tee and had to take a penalty drop.  After that as the match came towards an end she managed to hole a four footer and finally won €37 500 and the title. She also moved up to the second spot in the Henderson Money List.

The fifth position was secured by Anne-Lise Caudal, Tara Davies and Diana Luna and the eighth position went to Caroline Masson. Christel Boeljon made a very strong start but could not maintain the momentum and slipped to the ninth position to share it with Julie Greciet and Lynnette Brooky. Australian player Frances Bondad won a BMW 640i convertible as she played a hole in one shot at the 16th hole in the final stage of Deloitte Ladies Open.
