Rolex Prince Yellow Gold

Since its inception, Rolex has always been recognized as the symbol of class and luxury. However, Rolex has also let itself recognize the toil and hard work of a few good men of this planet and dedicate its reliable and popular factor to their mastery of creating extraordinary legends. The new Cellini collection from Rolex is an example of this recognition. This series of Rolex timepieces have been especially dedicated to the great sculptor and goldsmith of the Renaissance popes and kings, Benvenuto Cellini. With his invincible charm and brilliant performances in the Twilight movie franchise, Robert Pattinson has undoubtedly become the heartbeat of millions of females all over the world. Girls going gaga over this Englishman are nothing new these days.

Rolex Fastnet Race Winners Gear up for the Upcoming Volvo Ocean Race

Ian Walker

Three veteran sailing crews of the Rolex Fastnet Race have made it to the upcoming Volvo Ocean Race. The 2011 Rolex Fastnet Race saw three most popular crews making a mark in the race - the new Groupama (Franck Cammas), Abu Dhabi (Ian Walker), and the expertly restored Team Sanya (Mike Sanderson). All the three Volvo 70s qualified comfortably for the forthcoming Volvo sailing spectacle. Ian Walker’s Abu Dhabi sailing crew was the best performer in the Rolex Fastnet Race, 2011. More than half of the Volvo Ocean Race campaign is done before the boats are launched. According to Volvo Ocean Race CEO Knut Frostad, it is very important to complete at least two-thirds of the work prior to the race. It helps in easing up things not only for the race organizers, but also for the participants who take part in the race.

The seven boats scheduled to be a part of the race also had to participate in a qualifying race of 700 miles three weeks ago. However, with emergency drills, it wasn’t really a race at all. There’s a short points race off a city which is en fete, the fleet in port including many veteran boats and campaigners from previous Volvo races (and Whitbreads before that), including the gallant if overweight Golden Dragon which launched Ian Walker on his Volvo career.

Volvo Ocean Race

Ian Walker’s Abu Dhabi crew performed exceptionally well in the Rolex Fastnet Race leaving behind Groupama by four minutes. However, the crew was quick to deflate excess hopes; it reckoned Groupama with a faster reach on the shores. Ian Walker’s crew includes Justin Slattery of Wexford, while Groupama has Damian Foxall of Kerry, but there’s now no Irish representation in Team Sanya’s crew.

Team Sanya has been going through a tough time.  After the Rolex Fastnet Race, they admitted the new boats had the edge on them in speed. In order to keep with their assertion, the team members will be looking for a bit of luck in the Volvo Race. However, the present situation does not seem to support them and buck them up. Team Sanya skipper Mike Sanderson was down with appendicitis a month ago, and will be just about fit for the start of the Volvo Ocean Race’s offshore stage on November 5th, 2011. Also, the Irish media crew member Frankie Leonard of Galway was chronically seasick on the 2,000-mile qualifier that he stood down. Andres Soriano of New York when and the Philippines would be the new media crew member after the start of the race. Andres Soriano is a junior member of the family which owns Alegre, the Mills 68 which carried some of Ireland’s hopes in this week’s Rolex Middle Sea Race out of Malta.

The Story of Rolex and its being the Greatest Sponsor

Rolex

Rolex has always been known for amalgamating its brand values with competitive sailing and maritime exploration. Most of the international sailing events are being sponsored by Rolex for a long time and the brand has been able to create enough buzz for all the sailing sports lovers. The Rolex association has gone far beyond useful timekeeping to lifestyle statements. This transformation has aided in the appeal for better performances by yacht teams all over the world and also the skills of the sailors who sail them. These days, organizing a regatta without the sponsorship of multiple watchmakers means inviting the monopoly of decaying interest in the sports itself. Rolex being one of the major watchmakers brand, it has always supported and encouraged the all kinds of sailing and maritime sports.

The English inventor of the marine chronometer, John Harrison was solely responsible for giving birth to the legendary love affair between precision timekeeping and sailing in the 18th century. In order to meet the demands of the British parliament for calculating the longitude in order to identify their position at sea, John Harrison diverted his efforts to create a timepiece capable of maintaining accuracy at sea. In the 20th century, efforts to create a performance wristwatch design were focused on waterproof pressure casings for diving work as it was on surface sailing. Rolex took the tradition of manufacturing and creating pressure casings to new heights. In the year 1953, Rolex came up with the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner which was a guaranteed waterproof watch till a depth of 100 meters. Though there are other major watchmakers all around the world, but none of them have been able to commit themselves as deeply as Rolex.

John Harrison

Rolex began its association with sailing in 1958, when the New York Yacht Club adopted it as the official watch of the defender of the America’s Cup.

Today, Rolex concentrates on prestige blue water sailing events such as the annual maxi series, the Sydney-Hobart Race, and the Fastnet Race in the UK. Rolex association with sports sailing has everything to do with endurance and pushing a craft to its limits. The entire knows the fact very well that Rolex is precise, waterproof and robust watch than any other watch brand in the world. The yachting world has always provided an extraordinary field of validation and expansion for Rolex timepieces. Eddie Warden Owen, the chief executive of the UK’s Royal Ocean Racing Club, which organizes the biennial Fastnet Race, says that the Rolex sponsorship has helped a lot to raise the race’s public profile to such a height. According to Eddie Warden Owen, the Royal Ocean Racing Club had to overdo the usual limit of 300 entries due to the strong support of Rolex.
